Edinburgh Recovery House is a residential facility (often referred to as a safe- or dry-house) to support people affected by alcoholism, drug misuse and other addictions. We offer nurturing accommodation, supplemented by individually tailored therapy and wellbeing activities, to support relapse prevention and long-term recovery.
Here in our safe haven, you will discover a vibrant new world free from addiction as you gain strength and prepare for the return to regular home life at your own pace. Our highly experienced team is here to help you on your journey, throughout and beyond your time with us, solidifying the foundations of your recovery from addiction and creating a life of possibilities!

If you are committed to living a sober lifestyle and abstaining from any other addiction but are not ready to return to life at home just yet, Edinburgh Recovery House could be the perfect option for you.
Our residents are males aged 18 and over who have completed a detox. programme if necessary and are ready to begin the next phase of their journey of recovery from alcoholism and other addictions.

Our Model
Recovery from addiction of any kind has many pitfalls and a particularly vulnerable time is during the transition from a detox program back to everyday life. Leaving a rehabilitation centre can be a relief and often creates a desire to return to the familiarity of home. Sadly, however, this is often the place that creates the most challenges for your new path to recovery. There are responsibilities to attend to, chores to be done and people to interact with, which can soon become overwhelming and lead to relapse. Understanding the challenges at this critical time in your journey, our highly experienced professional team have carefully designed Edinburgh Recovery House to help you safely and smoothly make this transition to your next chapter of a healthy and happy life in recovery, nourishing you with all the support you need in a caring environment, while providing you with the tools for a lasting recovery. Our model endorses a holistic programme of recovery. Its cornerstones are the 12-step programme and peer group support, supplemented by other activities to promote physical and mental health. This spirited blend of the most effective addiction treatment and wellbeing solutions is tailored to your individual circumstances and includes the following areas of support:

Meet the Team

Director / Co-Founder
Peter is a very approachable and helpful person who is considerate in his role as guide and mentor. He has helped numerous people find recovery throughout the years and is always keen to provide his unique and holistic guidance. He is also very thorough in his aftercare as he realises how important it is to receive honest and caring support at this critical stage of the journey to a new life. He is always happy to lend a listening ear and to gently guide the residents through any dilemma in their recovery process.
He is passionate about the concepts practiced at the Edinburgh Recovery House and is an essential part of the program. He believes that with the right tools and support it is possible to stay on the path of recovery and to create a new healthy and meaningful life.
Peter has 10 years experience as an addiction recovery sponsor and mentor, holding a diploma in Counselling and CBT from the Glasgow Institute of Counselling and a BA(Hons) in Hospitality Management, plus a 30 year track record of business start-ups and operations where he has held many prominent roles in various capacities of leadership and entrepreneurship. Peter also gives talks about gambling addictions in schools, colleges, universities as well as various organisations and institutions.
Peter is keen to create the best possible environment for a lasting recovery and knows how important it is for those participating in the recovery program to receive the spiritual and practical support so vital for a successful recovery. The Edinburgh recovery house focuses on giving residents the support they need transition back to normal life at their own pace. This part of recovery is not without its complications and people will often need extra care and support for a prolonged time to be able to rebuild their lives and find inner peace.
Roles
With his many years of experience as a sponsor, Peter has a great deal of knowledge and wisdom to pass on and is keen for everyone in his care to do well and thrive. He wants everyone staying at Edinburgh Recovery House to feel at home during their transitioning from a detox programme to every day life. He is keenly aware that this transition may come with many challenges and setbacks and is always happy to offer a listening ear and give his support and guidance.
Edinburgh Recovery house has been created to provide a safe haven for anyone transitioning from a detox program to a normal home environment. Peter is always eager to help residents create a new life for themselves where they can begin to thrive and start living a healthy lifestyle.
Apart from being a mentor and guide, Peter is also in charge of the operation of Edinburgh Recovery House, as well as overseeing finances and raising funds and ensuring various project targets are met.
His role also involves hiring the senior team and leading the healthcare consultants; managing and motivating staff for optimum care while looking after the wellbeing of staff and residents alike.

Senior Therapist / Director / Co-Founder
Tony is a friendly and knowledgeable person who is always keen to help and inspire people. He has a wide variety of experience within recovery and therapy and has been a practising Senior Psychotherapist at Castle Craig hospital for the last 10 years. He is a BACP member and practitioner.
Tony currently leads a gambling, gaming and cryptocurrency trading behavioural addiction therapy programme in Edinburgh. He also has 10 years experience as an addiction recovery sponsor and mentor. Tony gained his Diploma in integrated Counselling from Edinburgh College in 2010 and is presently working as a therapist at a private addiction recovery centre where he began training and working in 2013. He attained a Postgraduate Diploma in Person-Centred Psychotherapy in 2014.
Tony also has a 32 year track record of various business start-ups and operations and is a co-founder of John Hartson Gambling and Addiction Workshops. In this capacity he also runs an outreach program visiting football clubs on a monthly basis to talk about gambling addiction.
Tony works with a wide range of issues in his capacity as a therapist and gently guides his clients to find new and meaningful ways in life where they can thrive and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Some of his areas of expertise are within addictions, body image, anxiety, depression/low mood and stress as well as substance and alcohol abuse. He also specialises in anger issues as well as grief and bereavement.
He is particularly interested in attachment disorders in connection with addiction including issues such as trauma, childhood emotional neglect, childhood abuse and bullying. Tony also has expertise in post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and borderline personality disorder (BPD) and is keen to help anyone with underlying issues to find peace and recovery in a way that is appropriate for them. Tony’s understanding and caring nature has a calming effect and he is a keen listener. His own lived experience gives him a unique understanding for those he is helping.

As an experienced therapist, mentor and sponsor with a long-standing experience of recovery, Tony has a lot to offer and cares deeply about each and every individual he helps.
Edinburgh Recovery House is especially close to his heart as he knows how important it is to find the right kind of support after receiving treatment for any addiction. The aftercare and support a person receives after the first stage of recovery is crucial for the long-term outcome of the treatment.
Tony is proud to be part of a team of experienced people who can guide you in your recovery process and help you go from a situation of striving to one of thriving and he can tell you from experience that no one can do it all by themselves!
Tony is very keen to help create healthy goals and expectations for anyone in the process of resuming their normal life and his guidance often proves invaluable. It is perfectly normal to need some help and support to achieve a profound lifestyle change and the time this transition takes is different for everyone.
Tony is a keen mentor who can identify the various seen and unseen effects of addiction and trauma; he is deeply involved in the well being of those he mentors and is there to offer support and guidance throughout the recovery process. While he expects everyone to put in the effort required for their own recovery he recognises the internal and external obstacles that may lie ahead and he understands what you’re going through.
Tony has his own lived experience of addictions and recovery and can relate to anyone on this path. He knows recovery can seem lonely and frightening at times but he wants you to know that you are not alone on this journey!
